After viewing two news videos, students discussed the impact of the President's rhetorical work in his speeches and responses to the media.
For homework, students read the above file of President Bush's speech on 9/11. They are to use the SOAPS process, and what we discussed in viewing the videos today, to establish Bush's rhetoric.
Today we conducted a practice of the AP Rhetorical Analysis Essay. We will review the results after the holiday weekend.
Today we reviewed student results of the multiple choice AP diagnostic.
In addition, students were given the below to read by Friday.
Today we took a diagnostic assessment of the multiple choice portion of the AP exam. This will allow us to examine which skills students already have strength, and which weaknesses we need to focus on.
Our first vocab!
Today we took notes on vocab 1-10. After 30 vocab words, there will be an assessment. Below is the powerpoint for the entire 30 words.

1. Students assembled their binders.
2. We took the pre assessment for the semester.
Students posted their summer novel poster, and students conducted a 3-2-1 to pick out books that were intriguing, were opposites of their reading interests, and generate an idea for what students might select as their Semester 1 novel.
Students are creating a visual of pertinent information for the novel student's selected as part of the summer assignment. We are working on this Monday-Wednesday, and it is due in class Thursday.
Students participated in an escape room-themed activity to learn their way around the classroom, and the essential details of the syllabus.
Students were also given their first homework assignment--the white sheet attached to the syllabus, the parent signature page, is due by Wednesday.
