Today, students read pages 38-46 with a partner, and again completed questions on the Socrative Student app.
1. Who is Liberty 5-3000 and how has this person affected Equality 7-2521?
2. Discuss the Time of Mating.
3.Why is Equality worried about Liberty's age?
4.At the end of the section, Equality notices how all the men he sees look and how they carry themselves. Why would fear be the word Equality thinks of when he's describing this scene?
5.Please comment on anything that has happened so far in Anthem.
Today we brought technology into the classroom!
We read pages 25-37 of Anthem and answered questions from the app Socrative Student. Students downloaded this app and answered questions electronically about the text. The results posted on the smart board, which was pretty cool.
In case you missed our super awesome high tech assignment and need to do this old school:
1. Considering the images being presented so far: leaders in togas, claim the world is flat, and the newest invention was 100 years ago and it was a candle. What type of civilization does this seem to be to you? Explain thoroughly.
2. Speculate as to why people enter the Home of the Useless at 40. Also, why at 45, you are an Ancient One.
3. Why are people "damned who touch the things from the Unmentionable Times" (p. 32-33).
4. Explain why Equality 7-2521 is false in the faces of his brothers, even though he does not regret it.
5. What is your reaction, so far, to Equality 7-2521?
Today we began our final novel, Anthem. Today, I read to the class pages 17-25 while students created a visualization picture. On the back, students answered the question "how does this society compare to ours?"
Period 3 continued their presentations today. Whoot!
Periods 6/7 and 8/9 participated in a reflection while I was at a meeting. It can be found on the easel in the classroom for anyone who was absent.
Debates begin tomorrow. Here is a fresher on the rubric:
Things to consider when preparing your argument:
1. Plan the pacing of your argument well, so it flows and makes sense. Think about your intonations and how you want things to sound. This is part of being a good speaker.
2. Your presentation is persuasive. Avoid standing up there like a robot, part of this grade is your ability to be charismatic and suave.
3. Time yourself. If you go beyond 5 minutes, I will stop you. If you are as short as a minute, you will be penalized.
4. Class participation. You are graded on how well you answer the class’s questions. (There will be a time limit to this section.)
Today is the final day to conduct research in class. If students need more time, they should attend the Writing Center.
Also, there is NO SCHOOL tomorrow, April 17th.
