Today students took the GATES Pre-assessment. This assessment measures lexile and grade level reading, so I am able to implement reading materials at proper grade levels.
After creating a google mail, saving on our H Drive, and sending attachments, students are going to address the below reader letter on google docs. The assignment does not get credit unless shared with me on google docs to the email firstname.lastname@example.org.
-- your reading history (reading when you were a child).
-- how reading was for you in elementary school.
-- how reading changed once you entered middle school
-- how you think reading changes in high school
-- how reading will impact your future plans (college/career)
-- your reading goal for the school year
This is a LETTER from YOU to ME. Please set it up accordingly.
Today we are setting up our google mail accounts. Follow the link here to be able to generate your email address.
1. Send me an email to email@example.com
- In the subject write your first and last name
- In the email body, explain how you spent your summer. (I want a paragraph-ish)
- Send a microsoft word attachment, too.
- In the attachment, explain what your post high school plans are (so far)
2. Let me know when you send it, so I can verify the email and give you participation points.
We did a couple of things:
1. Set up composition notebooks for the out of class reading project,
2. Set up binders for in class,
3. Took the Type Two Pre-Assessment
Remember: We're in the library on Monday!
Students are creating posters that demonstrate their understanding of the standards.
Students took the quiz on the syllabus and then completed their common core work from yesterday.
In preparation to understand what the state of Illinois expects of students, classes are participating in an exploratory common core activity for their grade level.
Also, if class occurs during the time of the eclipse, we will watch it on the live stream in class during the activity.
Students had two parts to class today.
1. Reading survey (found here)
2. A syllabus activity. This activity was practice for the syllabus quiz on Tuesday.
