I'm out today and tomorrow, but, school continues even when the teacher is out!
So, today and tomorrow you read (and will read) from our class novel, Bronx Masquerade. If I remember properly, you'll be at page 45 by end of class tomorrow. You're only assignment with the book is to work on the character sheets as you read. ....
Since it's halloween and I didn't get to be at work to show you my halloween spirit, today's picture is of my fur-daughter, Katniss, in her ladybug costume :)
Today, we reviewed scores from the first, second, and third Interim Assessment scores. These scores showed not only the score from the test, but also which reading skills we need to improve on. Look carefully!
Also, in partners, we completed 6-way paragraphs #7 and 8. We'll review your answers next Wednesday!
Periods 3 and 7/8: Finished typing and turned in their violent video game essays.
We are ALMOST finished typing the violent video games papers. They are due at the end of class tomorrow.
Papers turned into the drop box on time will be given 100/100.
Papers turned in on time with glaring errors (not times new roman, wrong font size, very small paragraphs, etc.) were given 75/100.
We will revisit these essays in two weeks time to edit them.
Period 11: We spent one final day writing out paragraphs in class. We will go to the lab next Tuesday and Wednesday to type.
Today, we typed up the essays we've been working on for the last few weeks on violent video games. We'll be finishing them up tomorrow! \
Period 11: We spent time writing in class and getting the hang of these body paragraphs.
Today we began the novel, Bronx Masquerade. We read pgs 3-17.
Students took notes on a character sheet.
I assigned a vocabulary packet related to the book. It's due after Thanksgiving Break, once we complete the book. So, you've got a loooooong time to finish it!
Today we took the third Interim Assessment of the school year.
Also, I handed out a permission slip for students to be a part of my thesis research project. Please get those back to me soon!
We continued work on our violent video games essay. We worked on body paragraphs and the conclusion.
Next week, we'll head to the computer lab to type and edit.
We spent today talking about our emotional and social intelligence.
We addressed how we need to conduct ourselves in class in order to have a classroom community that allows everyone to learn to be college and career ready.
Each class created a set of "agreements" to which to abide by in order to maintain a positive and good learning environment.
We spent today writing (yay, more writing!)
We wrote about our Reader's Toolkit. After making a list of what we've learned so far this semester (it was a crazy long list), we selected a few to focus on and write descriptive paragraphs that addressed: an explanation of the skill/strategy and how it's help you improve so far.
Since Common Core requires that students can write to explain what they know and are metacognitive about, this assignment was just right.
There was an emphasis on reflection, explanation, and the paragraph structure itself, which we're still working on.
Enjoy the weekend. When Monday rolls around, it'll be Quarter 2 and Quarter 2 always goes by so quickly!
Today, we revisited context clues.
We practiced with partners and worked on identifying which of the six context clues were used in our assignment pages.
This worksheet is due tomorrow, as tomorrow is the END OF QUARTER 1.
Also, all late work, make up work, and book projects are due TOMORROW for quarter 1. Remember, I'm leaving right away after school to travel to a conference, so you won't be able to bring me anything after school.
This is Mrs. DeWitz's fifth year teaching Freshman at Thornton, but her sixth year at Thornton.
